After ending the regular season in the number one spot, Jayden Wilson and Fame Is Dynamite stayed consistent to win the 2025 Canadian Barrel Racing title and Canadian Finals Rodeo Aggregate title.

Making her first appearance at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in 2024, the 27-year-old returned this October in the number one spot. With $51,952 won prior to the CFR, Wilson led the barrel racing field by more than $10,000.

“It was a pretty great year honestly. We didn’t have a lot of challenges other than drawing on the muddy day at a few rodeos,” Wilson said. “What was the biggest win to me was just how consistently we were in the money. There was only one weekend the whole year that we didn’t win money at at least one of the rodeos. As far as individual rodeos go, making the short go at Ponoka is always a highlight. It’s one of my favorite rodeos to run at. Winning Bruce and High Prairie back to backand running the same time at both was pretty cool!”

Wilson’s main mount is 8-year-old Fame Is Dynamite (Frenchs Hula Guy x Wranglers Dynamite x Doc O Dynamite), a gelding her family raised. Wilson’s sister ran “Whiskey’s” dam at junior high rodeos. Wilson took the reins on Whiskey when he was 3 years old and futuritied him as a 5 year old before starting to pro rodeo on him.

“I run him in an Elliott Spur Up 02 bit with a 3-piece mouthpiece with a roller, and either a covered chain or leather curb,” she added. “It actually is the bit that we ran his mom in. I put it on him when he was 4 just to try and liked how he felt, and haven’t changed since.”

Like any great rodeo horse, Whiskey is quirky and full of attitude. Wilson said he has a deceiving style, rarely looking as fast as he actually is during a run.

“He runs pretty straight and correct, and is the kind of horse who makes the same run every time, no matter the set up or ground,” Wilson said. “I don’t have anything else running at the moment, so I brought my sister’s horse as a backup just in case. I prepared for CFR pretty much how I would prepare for any other rodeo this year. I didn’t want to change things up too much. I tried to keep running a bit during September to keep us both sharp. Otherwise just exercising him at home in the field and doing some slow work. I also made sure to be there for barrel practice each morning at CFR, to get a feel for the set up and just do some slow work in there.”

Wilson and Whiskey took on Rogers Place by storm and maintaining the lead in the standings after winning $39,608 at the CFR. The duo placed third in the first round with a 13.99. They placed second in rounds two and three with a 13.85 and 14.09. In round four they tied for sixth place with a time of 14.20, and ran a 14.04 in round five for another sixth place finish.

“It was such a great experience. There’s nothing like running in Rogers Place, the atmosphere is so cool and the building itself is amazing,” Wilson said. “This year I felt a lot more prepared going in, knowing a little more of what to expect. The first round I really just wanted to focus on getting a good first barrel and having a smooth, clean run. We ended up third in the round and I was super happy with that! I tried not to change much between rounds. He felt good, and didn’t feel like he was trying to set up too much or anything like that so I just kept the same routine. Really, all five runs felt just about the same. For the two rounds on Saturday, I was thinking a little more about the average than the first three rounds and just tried to ride smart to stay clean rather than risking anything.”

Wilson works as a Financial Analyst for an accounting firm in Calgary, Alberta while also rodeoing full time since 2019. She set out in 2025 to qualify for the CFR again, but ended up on top of the standings, leading her to enter rodeos farther away than she usually goes to.

“As the summer went on I was sitting pretty high in the standings, so it became more of a goal,” she said. “To finish the year in number one is just a dream come true!”

With a time of 70.17 on five runs, Wilson also won the aggregate championship worth $17,100.

“Whiskey isn’t one to hit many barrels, so the average is actually something I’ve wanted to do well in with him. I feel like it’s so tough though it’s not something you ever expect to win, so to do that was pretty cool,” Wilson added.

Looking ahead, Wilson aims to qualify for the CFR again next year and the Maple Leaf Circuit Finals, with the larger goal of making the NFR Open held in Colorado Springs, Colorado during the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. Beyond that, she hopes to get to a few more U.S. rodeos and is excited to compete at the Calgary Stampede in 2026.

“Just a thank you to everyone else who has helped me to this point! My family who supports me so much, everyone who has given advice and gotten me to this point,” she said. “My sponsors Simply Straw, FLAIR Equine, Baredown Brand, Strathmore Motor Products and Equiscope Gal (Alexi Oborne).”
